Rodney Jones Signs with Rebel Basketball

May 4, 2006

OXFORD, Miss. - New head coach Andy Kennedy continues to strengthen his Ole Miss basketball team, inking Rodney Jones of Alexandria, La., to a national letter of intent on Thursday. The 6-foot-4, 190-pound guard from Peabody Magnet High School will be eligible for the 2006-07 season as a freshman.

"Rodney Jones is a winner. He won more than 100 games at Peabody under the tutelage of one of the most respected and successful coaches in the state of Louisiana," Kennedy said. "Rodney's approach to the game separates him from other incoming freshmen. He will contribute at the SEC level from day one."

Playing for coach Charles Smith, Jones was a McDonald's All-America nominee and the Louisiana 4A Player of the Year this season, averaging 27 points and 10 rebounds. The Team Captain and first team All-State selection guided Peabody to a 34-5 record and the state semifinals as a senior.

Over his three years as a starter, Jones helped lead the Warhorses to 108 wins, including a 41-0 mark his sophomore campaign. He earned All-District honors twice.

Jones is the Rebels' third signee in the last week, joining forwards Andy Ogide from Paulding County (Ga.) High School and Kenny Williams from St. Petersburg (Fla.) Community College. Also new to the Rebel lineup in 2006-07 will be sophomore guard Justin Ceraoli, who transferred to Ole Miss from Seton Hall last July.
