Rebel Basketball Family Loses Former Player Henry Jackson

July 21, 2006

WALNUT GROVE, Miss. - Funeral arrangements have been set for former Ole Miss basketball player Henry Jackson, who lost his life Monday. Services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at True Light Missionary Baptist Church in his hometown of Walnut Grove.

A four-year letterwinner from 1975-76 to 1978-79, Jackson topped the Rebels in assists in each of his first three seasons and finished his career as the Ole Miss all-time leader. The 5-foot-11 guard still ranks fourth on the career list with 378.

As a junior, Jackson directed the Rebel offense and finished sixth in the Southeastern Conference with 177 assists. He also scored 16 points in leading Ole Miss to an 84-75 home victory over Auburn.

An All-State selection in high school, Jackson led South Leake to a 32-3 record and the 1975 North Mississippi championship with a 28.3 scoring average and 11.4 assists per game. He was also a standout shortstop on the South Leake baseball team.

The son of Addie Lee Jackson, Henry was 49 years old.
