Lady Rebel Hoopsters Set To Perform At Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame Weekend

July 24, 2006

OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss women's basketball players senior All America candidate Armintie Price and juniors Carla Bartee and Danetra Forrest will be performing at the BancorpSouth Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame Weekend's 44th Annual Induction Banquet on Friday, July 28. The trio, who go by the name of "The Anointed Voices," will trade their basketball uniforms for microphones as they will be singing a gospel song in place of the event's traditional opening prayer.

Price, Bartee and Forrest formed their singing group nearly two years ago. The Lady Rebel teammates learned of their vocal talents while living in the same dorm and soon "The Anointed Voices" were formed. The group has taken their act to local nursing homes and community centers, performing primarily gospel hits.

In addition to the threesome's talent behind the microphone, they are also three of the top returnees for the Lady Rebels entering the 2006-07 season. Ole Miss, who is looking to make its fourth-straight postseason appearance on the hardcourt, will be led by the three Mississippi natives. Price, a 5-9 Myrtle native earned First Team All-SEC honors for the second-straight year and was one of just three players in all of the NCAA to lead her team in scoring (17.7), rebounding (9.6), assists (3.4) and steals (3.4). She enters her senior season on pace to become just the fifth player in NCAA history to post over 2,000 points, 1,000 rebounds, 300 steals and 300 assists in a career.

Bartee, a Waynesboro native, transferred to Ole Miss from Western Kentucky, and played her first season in a Lady Rebel uniform last year. The 6-1 forward is Ole Miss' third leading returning scorer as she turned in 9.6 points and also added 3.6 boards. Bartee ranked second on the team with 51 three-point baskets on the season and is the leading returnee for the Lady Rebels in that category.

Forrest, the 2004 Mississippi High School Player of the Year, averaged 6.2 points and 3.2 rebounds as a sophomore. She made 57-of-123 shots from the field, good for 46.3 percent. The Louisville product turned in a career best performance against Florida with 19 points, 14 rebounds and two steals versus the Gators.

The BancorpSouth Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame Weekend consists of two events: the 44th Annual Induction Banquet which will enshrine the members of the Class of 2006 on Friday evening at the Hilton of Jackson; and, the Meet the Inductees gathering at the Museum on Saturday morning July 29, 2006 from 9:30am-11:00am featuring inductees from all classes. Also at the Museum Saturday from 11am-12pm, there will be a program tracing the development of the Museum from its beginning in 1991 to the present where Hall of Famers Ralph Boston, Marino Casem and D.D. Lewis will share their favorite Mississippi sports memories.

Saturday evening July 29, 2006 at 7:00pm, the Museum will celebrate its tenth anniversary with a birthday cake, $5000 drawdown and memorabilia auction sponsored by Wells, Moore, Simmons and Hubbard PLLC.

The 2006 Induction Class consists of former Ole Miss and Colts championship player Ray Brown; tennis coach Billy Chadwick, the winnings coach in Ole Miss athletic history; Lloyd Clark, who guided Delta State to three NCAA women's basketball titles; former star USM quarterback and current broadcaster Vic Purvis; Anton Reel, the first weightlifting inductee; and, former MSU offensive lineman Walt Suggs, a member of the Houston Oilers' all-time 30 year team..
