Laura Evans Leads Ole Miss At 2006 SEC Championships

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -
Led by freshman Dori Carter's 1-over-par 73, the Ole Miss women's golf team carded a tournament best round of 307 in Sunday's final round of play at the 2006 SEC Championships. Lady Rebel senior Laura Evans was the top finisher for Ole Miss as she placed 45th in the individual standings, while the Lady Rebels finished 12th as a team.
Evans turned in an 80 on Sunday on her way to posting a 77-76-80--233. Freshman Rachel Ingram was two strokes behind Evans with her 78-82-75--235. Ingram finished in a tie for 47th place, while senior Sarah Kate Cousart was two places behind her at 49th place. Cousart fired a three-round total of 80-77-79--236.
Carter finished the tournament in a tie for 51st place with her 83-83-73--239. Her round of 73 on Sunday was the top mark of the tournament for the Lady Rebels. Junior Katie Davidson finished the tournament in 60th place with her totals of 88-80-82--250.
Maria Martinez birdied the final two holes, posting a 2-under par 70 en route to claiming medalist honors and helping Auburn edge Tennessee for its second consecutive Southeastern Conference Women's Golf Championship. Martinez (73+68+70=211), along with teammates Margaret Shirley (77+69+71=217), who finished third, and Abigale Schepperle (74+78+76=228) each birdied the 18th hole to help Auburn (300+282+293=875) outlast a strong surge from Tennessee (301+287+288=876).
The Lady Volunteers carded a final round low 288 as a team, led by Marci Turner (73+73+69=215) who finished in second place, four shots behind Martinez.
