Dana Brill Earns SEC Pitcher Of The Week Honors

May 8, 2006

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - An Ole Miss player has been named the Southeastern Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week for the second straight week, as senior right-hander Dana Brill was recognized with the honor by the league office on Monday afternoon.

The Houston, Texas, native went 2-1 with a 1.40 ERA in four appearances this past week, giving up just nine hits in 20 innings of work, with 16 strikeouts. On Tuesday, she pitched a complete-game, two-hit shutout with eight strikeouts in a 2-0 win over Birmingham-Southern. Brill earned a win in relief at No. 20 Auburn on Saturday, with no earned runs and two hits allowed in four innings, with three strikeouts. Her lone loss came when Auburn's Holly Currie pitched a no-hitter in a 2-0 loss on Saturday.

Brill follows junior left-hander Mary Jane Callahan, who was named SEC Pitcher of the Week last Monday. Callahan, who also earned the accolade once before in 2005, was the only Ole Miss pitcher to have ever won the award before the announcement of Brill on Monday.

One of the Rebels' best pitchers in the history of the program, Brill ranks in the top five in every career statistical pitching category and ranks in the top five in almost every season category as well.

Brill has helped the Rebels to win seven of their last eight conference games en route to earning the school's first-ever SEC Tournament berth.

Both standouts in the circle will be looking to help the Rebels to an upset of No. 4-ranked Alabama, who is the top seed in the SEC Tournament. The two squads will face off in the first round with a 2:30 p.m. (EST) matchup on Thursday in Athens, Ga.
