Lady Rebel Netters Down Mississippi State 6-1

STARKVILLE, Miss. - The Ole Miss women's tennis team downed Mississippi State 6-1 Saturday afternoon at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre to improve to 11-8 and 4-7 in the SEC. The Lady Rebels have now won 17 straight against the Lady Bulldogs.

The match began with Ole Miss gaining the doubles point. State only had five players, thus the Lady Rebels got a quick point at No.3 doubles. They won 8-1 at No. 1 doubles to clinch the point.

Ole Miss went up 2-0, as for the second time in the last three matches, Mimi Renaudin had no opponent at No. 6 singles. Ilona Somers made it 3-0 when she dominated Martina Banikova 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2 singles.

Freshman Kseniia Tokarieva clinched the win by downing MSU's Renee'Joseph 6-2, 6-3 at No.1 singles. She improved to 2-1 at No. 1 singles and finished 8-3 in the SEC. She is now a combined 29-5 in singles and doubles.

Ole Miss won two of the final three matches for the final 6-1 score. The Lady Rebels will be the No. 9 seed in the upcoming SEC Championships, which begin April 20 in Gainesville, Fla. They will play South Carolina in the first round Thursday at 9 a.m. CT, with the winner to meet Florida in the quarterfinals.
